The American Wind Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) is an American musical ensemble comprised of wind instruments found in a symphony orchestra, which is dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music and is known for having commissioned over 400 new works. Based in Mars, Pennsylvania, the AWSO was founded and directed for 50 years by the American conductor (and former trumpeter) Robert Austin Boudreau (b. 1027).

25th  Conga Se Menne – The musical style of Conga Se Menne is impossible to pigeon hole, running the gamut of Blues, Funk, Latin, Reggae, Rock, Caribbean beats and ethnic Finnish sounds.

AUGUST

1st  East Troy Community Band – The East Troy Community Band was brought back to life in 2002 by Jay and Heidi Huenink. In five short years the membership has grown from 22 members to over 50 musicians. The band has a broad make up of a mixture of the director, musicians, community members and East Troy village officials.

8th  Rich Eddy’s Rockin’ Oldies - After years performing as an award-winning singer, percussionist and harmonica player in bands and studios across the USA, James Davis had a vision of a duo that could perform an equal, or even better, show than a band with many more members. To make that dream come true, he was lucky enough, in 1986, to team up with Don Hails, a multi-talented, award-winning musician and singer.

14th (Friday)  Dance North - A showcase of Michigan youth performing dance techniques learned at a “summer intensive”, taught by professional dancers from New York City.

15th  St. Ignace Steel Drum Band - The group has played through out Northern Michigan in parades, festivals, weddings, and conventions, has released 2 CDs, Divinici’s Pan and Live at the Cheboygan Opera House, and also appears on St. Ignace’s Night of Jazz DVD 2009.

22nd  Kort McCumber - Over the last ten years, Kort has honed his skills as a working musician playing more than 1000 live shows throughout the U.S. and Europe. Kort writes, plays and sings Americana Music - equal parts folk, country, blues and bluegrass, with a healthy dose of something fresh.

SEPTEMBER

6th (3 PM) Northern Michigan Brass Band - The all-volunteer Northern Michigan Brass Band (NMiBB) has attracted enthusiastic adult brass players from across Northern Michigan from Alpena in the east to Traverse City in the west. The current active membership comes from many walks of life and includes several current and retired band directors, doctors, secretaries, lawyers, teachers, football coaches, school administrators and US Army bandsmen. Since the band was organized in January 1999, NMiBB has presented many concerts at various locations throughout Michigan.

Thank you to all of our sponsors that make this musical event a success!
