Alice’s Kandy & Korn

In 1951 Alice Jones opened the first candy shop in Mackinaw City beginning a long tradition of excellence in candy making. For years, customers have traveled from throughout the Midwest for Alice’s delicious carmel corn and mouthwatering candies. In 1979, Chuck and Ginny Brew purchased the candy shop from Alice, and in 1983 doubled the shop.

Until her death in January, 1985, Alice was here daily… making sure our candies were every bit as delicious as they were in 1951. In honor of Alice, Chuck and Ginny renamed the shop “Alice’s Kandy & Korn” and pledged to continue Alice’s tradition of creating the finest of confectionary treats.

In 1989, after 38 years in one location, Alice’s moved to a larger building adjacent to the old facility. The move allowed us to expand our product lines and gave us more flexibility. We have been able to add candies and expand our chocolate line.

We invite you to visit us while you’re in Mackinaw City. Watch our candies being made and breathe in the intoxicating aromas. Enjoy our products here and ship some home to friends and family. We’re proud of our tradition of quality and service and look forward to sharing it with you.

Audie’s Restaurant

Audie’s Restaurant has been owned and operated by the Jaggi Family since 1974 and a local favorite since the Bridge was built. Edgar was working as a Chef at Boyne Highlands when his good friend Bill Shepler dropped in, excited to take him for a drive to see the perfect place for the Jaggi’s to turn their dream of owning their own restaurant into reality. It didn’t take long for them to decide that they wanted to purchase “Downing’s” and make it their own.

The Jaggi Family moved in (literally, with 5 kids living in the back of the restaurant) and the rest is history! Edgar and Audrey have since retired, and with son Nick at the helm we do things pretty much the same way we did back then. Our baker, Cheryl, bakes the breads, dinner rolls, desserts and pies. Chef Nick oversees the kitchen where Dwayne makes our homemade soups and sauces, we grind our own beef for burgers, slow roast the Prime Rib and create the daily specials.

Today, you might find the third generation of the Jaggi family at the front door, welcoming you in or perhaps in the kitchen, following in the footsteps of their father and grandfather.

Here at Audie’s, hospitality is a family tradition.

Biere de Mac Brew Works

OUR HISTORY

But behind every awesome group of people (which we are) and behind every stellar pint of beer (which we have) is a good story (3 for3!) The Ranville family initially settled on Mackinac Island several hundred years ago, along with French explorers, traders, voyagers, and a bunch of other cool, adventuresome lads and ladies.

We then moved to the mainland, and operated a fishing business in the area where the state docks are now located along the Mackinaw City waterfront. Good times were had, outlandish shenanigans took place, and our happy family grew happier. There’s a lot more to tell, but they are stories better shared over a pint of good brew. We choose to spell Biere the French way as a nod to our ancestors, who settled in the most beautiful place on the planet, and facilitated the opportunities that got us to where we are, which is a pretty amazing place to be!

Don’t be fooled by that fancy spelling, though; we won’t correct you on the pronunciation because we aren’t even sure if we say it right. Good beer and good food. That’s all we care about. Stop in some time, grab a pint (or, you know, realistically more than one) and enjoy! Cheers!
