Audie’s Restaurant

Audie’s Restaurant has been owned and operated by the Jaggi Family since 1974 and a local favorite since the Bridge was built. Edgar was working as a Chef at Boyne Highlands when his good friend Bill Shepler dropped in, excited to take him for a drive to see the perfect place for the Jaggi’s to turn their dream of owning their own restaurant into reality. It didn’t take long for them to decide that they wanted to purchase “Downing’s” and make it their own.

The Jaggi Family moved in (literally, with 5 kids living in the back of the restaurant) and the rest is history! Edgar and Audrey have since retired, and with son Nick at the helm we do things pretty much the same way we did back then. Our baker, Cheryl, bakes the breads, dinner rolls, desserts and pies. Chef Nick oversees the kitchen where Dwayne makes our homemade soups and sauces, we grind our own beef for burgers, slow roast the Prime Rib and create the daily specials.

Today, you might find the third generation of the Jaggi family at the front door, welcoming you in or perhaps in the kitchen, following in the footsteps of their father and grandfather.

Here at Audie’s, hospitality is a family tradition.

Headlands, The, an International Dark Sky Park

The Headlands was established in the late 1950s when Roger McCormick hired a helicopter and dropped 50lb. sacks of flour to mark the boundaries of a property he desired to purchase.

The Park contains approximately 550 acres of pristine woodlands, more than two miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline and many species of rare and endangered plant life. Visitors to the Headlands may experience sightings of the many wild animals native to the area including: bald eagles, osprey, white tail deer, wild turkeys, coyotes and occasionally a black bear. Marked nature trails guide hikers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and nature photographers to experience the park throughout the changing seasons.

The Headlands offers two facilities for rental by the public. The Guest House provides accommodations for 22 people in four bedrooms on three levels. There are 3 floors with 3 full baths (one per floor), a complete kitchen and a conference area. Linens are provided. the Waterfront Event Center is available for rent as well, with information available on the “About” tab.

The vision and cooperation of the following organizations and government units made this property available to the public: The McCormick Foundation, The Village of Mackinaw City, Emmet County, The Schott Foundation, The Little Traverse Conservancy, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Becoming an International Dark Sky Park

The Headlands became one of the first 10 International Dark Sky Parks in the world in 2011, a prestigious designation bestowed by the International Dark Sky Association in Tucson, Arizona, after a rigorous application and review process. What it means in a nutshell? The Headlands will stay dark and protected, forever, thanks to a commitment by the Emmet County Board of Commissioners.

Mackinaw City Bible Church

Welcome to the Mackinaw City Bible Church website. If you have ever been to the Mackinaw area, you know that we have been greatly blessed by God’s creative hand. What beauty we enjoy!

For the last 55 years God has allowed this Bible-believing church to proclaim God’s Word. Our music is traditional. We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs of the past and the present. We preach from the New King James Version.

If you come to Mackinaw City on a Sunday or Wednesday we hope that you will join us in worshipping our Lord Jesus Christ. The object of this church is the ministry of the Word of God for the salvation of souls, the edification of Christians, the world-wide proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the promotion of Godly worship, the defense of the “Faith Once Delivered”, and cooperation with Christian activity.
