CANCELLED- Corvette Crossroads Auto Show – 31st Annual
NOTICE OF CANCELLATION
July 24, 2020
This is a hard year to be an event organizer. We have been watching the State of Michigan Executive Order all summer hoping for a change of the 250 person restriction on outdoor gatherings. Yesterday morning our Board of Directors met, and feeling we could confidently provide a safe space for you to gather, we voted to continue the event. Registrations were coming in at a steady rate and we felt the show should go on. Then, yesterday afternoon, our municipality gave us a copy of a new special event form needed to host the event which included a page and a half of requirements including a plexi-glass barrier between participants and volunteers, temperature screenings of all participants, and a preparedness plan (including waivers, masks, contact tracing, disinfecting protocol, garbage removal, and more) as well as a signature stating we would not exceed the legal gathering size mandated by the executive order.
We are heartsick to cancel the show, but realistically, we simply cannot control the number of people in an open parking lot. Because we typically have 400+ participants at this event, not including spectators, the Board of Directors unanimously voted today to cancel this event. Regionally, we have watched every large event cancel this season, and into the fall. As wonderful as our show is, prudence dictates that we follow the lead of these other special events. We are cancelling due to an abundance of care for your health and well-being.
Cancelling the show doesn’t mean we don’t want people to visit our region; we recognize large gatherings present a high risk this year. It is difficult to ask volunteers to put themselves at risk to help with this event. We understand you may have hotel reservations and you may have been looking forward to time with your Corvette family. We hope you would still plan to make your trip to Mackinaw City with your vehicle and enjoy time with friends and family. This is traditionally Corvette Weekend in Mackinaw City and it is our hope that this will still be the case, even without an event. Note, IF you are registered for this event you will receive a full refund.
We still plan on hosting the parade through Mackinaw City and across the Mackinac Bridge. I have complete confidence that we can safely offer that component of Corvette weekend. Please join us at the Odawa Casino Parking Lot at 6pm for staging. You do not need to get out of your vehicle; our staff will come to you. The cost to register for the Parade is $5.00. This will cover your crossing of the Bridge with the group and you will need to pay your own fare back independently. The parade route is longer this year and will go through the town. If nothing else, we can at least stop traffic for a few minutes to commemorate our Corvette Crossroads event in its most difficult 31st year.
Stay healthy, help us spread this word to your clubs and friends, and we hope to see you next year, or at the parade.
Thank you for your gracious understanding,
