61st Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk
There are a lot of changes in the 2018 Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk! This video, published by the Mackinac Bridge Authority, explains how the walk has changed, including the elimination of busing and starting the walk from either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City.
One exciting opportunity the walk in the new format brings, is the opportunity to walk the entire length of the bridge, turn around, and walk back ( a ten mile circuit). While this option is certainly not for everyone, we think it is a unique draw to the event. The Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce will host the inaugural “Double Crosser Club,” which will be the first group ever to walk the entire 10 miles of the bridge. There is no cost to participate, but we recommend you get the official t-shirt! Order your Double Crosser t-shirt today! We ask all Double Crossers to order their t-shirt in advance and gather at 6:15am in the vicinity of Audie’s Restaurant. We will start the walk promptly at 7am. If anyone does not make it all the way across and back to center span by 10 am, they will be turned back to the St. Ignace side and will be responsible for their own transportation. To be a double crosser you will need to keep a steady pace and know you abilities. We will not provide any transportation offerings for Double Crossers. There is no transportation option available through our organization, so please plan accordingly and start early!
All participants (including Double Crossers) will line up on Nicolet Avenue (near Audie’s Restaurant) to begin the walk this year. The walk will finish in the same location.
